
Prayagraj, 18thJanuary – As part of the Maha Kumbh Mela, students from the Central Sanskrit University are actively promoting and spreading the Sanskrit language across the festival grounds. They are engaging in various activities such as performing Rudrapath, reciting stotras, conducting pujas, singing Sanskrit songs, and chanting Vedic mantras. In addition, they are leveraging social media platforms to expand the reach of their efforts.
This initiative, part of the ‘Sanskrit Bhasha Prasar Abhiyan’, aims to connect people with the beauty and essence of Sanskrit, informed Prof. Dr. Devkaran Sharma from Jaipur. The students are visiting akhadas and various pavilions at the Maha Kumbh, showcasing the spiritual and cultural richness of the Sanskrit language.
Dr Sharma further elaborated –
1. Extensive Reach of Sanskrit Education : Under the guidance of Chancellor Prof. Dr Srinivas Varkhede, the university operates 13 branches, managing 27 Sanskrit colleges and over 100 Sanskrit education centers. These centers are established in prestigious institutions, including IITs, IIMs, and medical colleges, ensuring that Sanskrit education reaches diverse fields.
2. Participation Plan for Kumbh Parva : It has been planned to organize groups of 50 students from all branches of the Sanskrit University to participate in the Kumbh Parva for two-day visits between 13thJanuary and 26thFebruary 2025. The students are provided with specially designed T-shirts bearing the university’s name to represent the Central Sanskrit University.
3. Growing Influence of Sanskrit : Dr Sharma emphasized that Sanskrit is experiencing a revival even in the modern era. Its spread and influence are attracting scholars, intellectuals, and professionals from various fields, including technology and other specialized sectors. The participation of these students highlights Sanskrit’s enduring relevance and its potential to bridge tradition with modernity.
