Donald Trump shares a map showing Canada as part of the United States

Canada protests

Washington DC (USA) – The newly elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, posted a map of the United States on X (formerly Twitter), which depicted Canada as part of the US. Canada’s caretaker Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and other leaders have completely rejected Trump’s idea. Trudeau said that ‘Canada will never be a part of the United States’. Trump’s aggressive stance has strained relations between Canada and the US.

Canada’s Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly said that Trump doesn’t understand Canada well. She said that Trump has no knowledge of Canada’s economy and the strength of its people. ‘Our economy and people are very strong. We will never bow to threats. Canada has always wanted good relations with the US, but our sovereignty will never be compromised’, she added.

Trump has threatened to impose a 25% tariff on imports from Canada, which could negatively impact Canada’s economy. Canadian officials are also preparing to respond to this tariff. Experts have expressed concerns that this could lead to a trade war between the two countries.

Trump also intends to take control of the Panama Canal and Greenland

Donald Trump has also expressed an interest in taking control of the Panama Canal and Greenland alongside Canada. He has warned of military action to achieve this. Trump said that American control over both is crucial for the national security of the US. Greenland is an autonomous region of Denmark, which has long been a partner of the US and a founding member of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation). Trump has even proposed imposing taxes if Denmark refuses to sell Greenland to the US.

Regarding these demands, Panama’s Foreign Minister Javier Martínez-Acha Vásquez firmly rejected Trump’s threat, saying, ‘The canal will remain under Panama’s control’.

Denmark also made it clear that Greenland is ‘not for sale’. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen stated, ‘I don’t think it’s a good thing to have disputes over economic matters while we are close allies and partners’.

Trump warns Hamas again

‘All hell will break out’ if the hostages are not released before 20th January

Trump warned that if the hostages kidnapped from Israel are not released before 20th January, it will not be good for Hamas. ‘I do not want to harm any negotiations; however, if a deal for the release of the hostages is not made before I take office, all hell will break out in the Middle East. I don’t have to say anymore, but that’s what it is’.

Trump has repeatedly urged Hamas to release the hostages. On 20th January, Trump will be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States.
