Ladakh – The Indian Army has erected an equestrian statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on the China border in eastern Ladakh, which was unveiled recently. The statue has been erected on the banks of Pangong Lake on the border, at an altitude of 14,300 feet above sea level. A saffron flag has also been hoisted there. Lieutenant General Hitesh Bhalla, General Officer Commanding, 14 Corps of the Indian Army, unveiled this statue on December 26th. The video of this has been released by the Army.
The statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has been unveiled days after India and China completed the process of withdrawing troops from the Demchok and Depsang areas on the Ladakh border. There was a violent clash between Indian and Chinese soldiers in the Pangong Lake area in eastern Ladakh on May 5th, 2020.
