Dhaka (Bangladesh) – A five-member inquiry commission set up by the interim Government has alleged India’s involvement in the disappearances of people from Bangladesh during Sheikh Hasina’s rule. The commission, headed by retired Supreme Court judge Mainul Islam Chowdhury, has accused India of being behind the disappearances.
1. Retired Justice Mainul Islam Chaudhury said, “We request the ministries to make every effort to identify the Bangladeshi nationals in Indian jails. The Commission cannot obtain information from outside Bangladesh.”
2. The Commission has given information on 2 cases. The first case is that of Shukramanjan Bali, who was abducted from the premises of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh and later found in an Indian jail. The second case is that of Salauddin Ahmed, a leader of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party.
3. Commission member and human rights activist Sajjad Hussain said that they had registered 1,676 complaints of disappearances outside legal process, of which 758 were investigated.
