Assam Police arrest 8 Jihadi terrorists, including 2 Bangladeshi nationals

Guwahati (Assam) – In a joint operation named ‘Operation Praghat’, the Assam Special Task Force, Bengal Police, and Kerala Police apprehended 8 terrorists who conspired assassinations of Hindu leaders. The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohammad Saab Sheikh, Minarul Sheikh, Abbas Ali, Noor Islam Mandal, Abdul Karim Mandal, Mojibar Rahman, Hamidul Islam, and Inamul Haque. These individuals were actively involved in establishing local support networks across the country. Among them, Saab Sheikh and Abbas Ali have been confirmed as Bangladeshi nationals. Notably, Abbas Ali had previously been arrested in a fake passport case.
1. Special Director General of Police Harmeet Singh of Assam Police revealed that the arrested terrorists had convened meetings in Murshidabad and Falakata, Bengal. These gatherings focused on planning attacks against leaders of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and other Hindu organizations, aiming to disrupt religious harmony in the country.

2. Acting on intelligence reports, police teams conducted raids across various parts of the country, leading to the arrest of these individuals. Numerous incriminating documents and items were seized during the operation.
3. The arrested terrorists, operating out of Kerala and Bengal, were working under Mohammed Farhan Israk, who is linked to Al Qaeda. Israk is also associated with Jasimuddin, the leader of the terrorist group ‘Ansarullah Bangla Team’.
