No ban on rally on the occasion of Tipu Sultan's birth anniversary

Maharashtra Government informs the Bombay High Court

Mumbai – AIMIM (All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen) party was not allowed to hold a rally in Baramati on the occasion of Tipu Sultan’s birth anniversary. In this case, the party filed a petition in the Bombay High Court. While hearing this petition, the Court asked the State Government if there is a ban on conducting a rally on the occasion of Tipu Sultan’s birth anniversary in the country. The Court added that it is the job of the Police to maintain law and order. They could change the route of the rally if required. In response, the Maharashtra Government has clarified that there is no ban on rallies on the occasion of Tipu Sultan’s birth anniversary.

Arguing on behalf of the State Government, Additional Public Advocate Kranti Hirwale said, “The Police say that organizing such a rally may create problems; as the rest of the community has opposed it.” (If this is the case, then why is the Government not listening to the Police and the community ? Is the Government afraid of opposition that it would invite by not allowing such rallies ? – Editor).
