Kolkata – In protest against the continuous attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh, doctors in Bengal have refused to treat Bangladeshi patients. Dr Shekhar Bandopadhyay hoisted the Indian tricolour flag at his hospital in Siliguri. Below the flag, a sign reads :
“The Indian national flag is like our mother. Please salute the tricolour before entering the hospital. Especially Bangladeshi patients must salute the national flag to receive treatment.”
While speaking to The Indian Express, Dr Bandopadhyay said, “It pains me to see the disrespect towards India’s national flag in Bangladesh. As a doctor, I don’t want to neglect patients, but those coming to my country must respect my national flag and my motherland. Bangladesh seems engulfed in a Taliban-like mentality.”
Several other senior doctors in Bengal have also decided not to treat Bangladeshi patients. Pediatrician Dr Chandranath Adhikari announced that he would not provide treatment to any Bangladeshi patients at his private clinic. He stated, “My country comes first. What is happening in Bangladesh is a matter of concern for all of us.”
