Lucknow (UP) – The Uttar Pradesh Government has announced the creation of a separate District for the upcoming Maha Kumbha Mela in Prayagraj. The designated area for the event has been given District status and will be called Maha Kumbh Mela District. The Government stated this decision ensures smooth management and administration of all festival-related activities. Prayagraj District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandad issued a circular confirming the decision. The new District will operate independently. The Maha Kumbha Mela will begin on 13th January, 2025, and conclude on 26th February, 2025. Key officials such as the Chief Executive Magistrate, District Magistrate, and Additional District Magistrates will oversee the management of this District.
Prime Minister Modi to review preparations
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Uttar Pradesh on 13th December to review preparations for the Maha Kumbha. Meetings focusing on festival management and security will be held during his visit.
Over 10 crore pilgrims expected
The administration estimates that over 10 crore pilgrims might attend this Maha Kumbha, a significant increase from previous events. Enhanced security measures, including underwater drones capable of scanning up to 300 meters, will be implemented to prevent accidents during river bathing.
6,000 hectares allocated for the Mela
The Maha Kumbha Mela District will span approximately 6,000 hectares, with 4,000 hectares reserved for Mela activities and 1,900 hectares for vehicle parking.
