Demand to ban ISKCON in Bangladesh filed in High Court

  • Court orders Govt to investigate the matter

  • Bangladesh Govt declares ISKCON a “radical organisation” in Court

Dhaka (Bangladesh) – A petition has been filed in the High Court of Bangladesh seeking a ban on ISKCON. The petition was filed by an advocate following the Bangladesh Government’s statement labelling ISKCON as a “radical religious organisation.” In response, the Court directed the Government to investigate the matter.

1. The Court questioned the Attorney General regarding ISKCON’s establishment and activities in Bangladesh. In response, the Attorney General stated that ISKCON is not a political party but a religious radical organisation, and the Government is investigating the matter.

2. The High Court instructed the Attorney General to present the Government’s stance on ISKCON and a report on law and order in the country by the morning of 28th November.

3. The petition also called for the imposition of emergency measures in Chittagong and Rangpur to prevent any untoward incidents amid protests against the arrest of ISKCON member Chinmoy Prabhu. The Court directed the Government to take immediate decisions on the matter.

4. Since Chinmoy Prabhu’s arrest, protests by Hindus in Bangladesh have been met with attacks from religious fanatic Muslims. In this context, ISKCON issued a statement condemning the Bangladesh Government’s actions.

Editorial Perspectives

  • It is not surprising that the Interim Government of Bangladesh, which lifted the ban on the Jihadi party ‘Jamaat-e-Islami,’ is now labelling ISKCON as a “radical organisation.” With people of Jihadi mindset in power, Hindu organisations in Bangladesh are bound to face such situations. Worse still, a genocide of Hindus seems inevitable. Now, the question is, what will Hindus worldwide do to ensure ‘Ek Hain Toh Safe Hain’ ?
  • If India was Israel and Hindus were Jews, the religious fanatics of Bangladesh would have met the same fate as those in Gaza by now. Hindus must learn from the Jews of Israel how to protect their community.
