In 11 Bengal assembly constituencies, 25,000 voter IDs had the same serial number

16 lakh names were removed from the voters’ list.

Kolkata (Bengal) – In 11 Bengal assembly constituencies, the Election Commission has found 25,000 voter IDs with the same serial nos. This fault was found after a few days of the announcement of the draft of 7.4 crore voters’ list. Approximately 16 lakh voters’ names have been deleted or amendment has been made.

Maximum voter IDs with same serial nos. were found in the constituencies of South Bongao and Matigara Naxalbari. Bongao is close to the border of Bangladesh and Matigara Naxalbari is close to Nepal border. Bogus voter IDs were also found in Madhyagram, Rajarhat, Gopalpur, Canning Purba, Baripur Purba and Paschim, Kursiang, Siliguri, Bongao Uttar and Falkata.

We are verifying – Election Commission

The Election Commission reported to the local Daily Telegraph, “we have told the district administration to verify all the voter IDs physically and to remove fake names from the list. We are trying to verify whether it is a human error or an effort to show foreigners as Indians.”

Editorial Perspective

Doesn’t the Election commission notice such flaw while handing over the ID ? It shows that the Commission’s system is faulty, and it can be a threat to national security.
