Possibility of the Mansarovar Yatra being resumed
Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) – India and China inched closer to the resumption of direct flights as well as Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage during discussion between External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar met China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi on November 18, 2024 in Rio de Janeiro on the sidelines of the G20 Summit. Mansarovar and its neighbouring Kailash Mountain has great importance in the Hindu religion. This area is in Tibet. And as Tibet is under the control of China, hence to do the Mansarovar pilgrimage one has to go to China.
In this meeting approval to call a special representative meeting of the two countries was given after 5 years. South Africa will host the G20 for the year 2025. The Rio de Janeiro Leaders’ Declaration establishes actions towards concrete results, based on the priorities of the Brazilian G20 presidency: (i) social inclusion and the fight against hunger and poverty; (ii) sustainable development, energy transitions and climate action; and (iii) the reform of global governance institutions. The document also enshrines the achievements of the Brazilian presidency throughout the year, such as the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty, the Task Force on a Global Mobilization against Climate Change and the Call to Action on Global Governance Reform. It also promises more aid to war affected Gaza and an appeal to ending the Ukraine – Russia war.
