Canada’s anti-India stance continues
Ottawa (Canada) – The website ‘Australia Today’ aired a joint press conference on its YouTube channel with India’s External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and Australia’s Foreign Minister Penny Wong, held in Canberra, Australia. Hours after the broadcast, the Canadian Government blocked Australia Today’s YouTube channel in Canada. This action has drawn a strong reaction from India, as Dr Jaishankar commented on India-Canada diplomatic relations during the conference.

Hypocrisy of Canada’s freedom of speech : India slams
India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, stated at a press conference in Delhi that Australia Today’s YouTube channel has been blocked and is no longer available to Canadian viewers, calling this move strange and highlighting Canada’s hypocrisy regarding freedom of expression. He went on to list out three points made by Jaishankar on the media outlet during press conference. He said, “One was Canada making allegations and a pattern has developed without any specific evidence. The second thing he highlighted was surveillance of Indian diplomats happening in Canada, which he termed as unacceptable. The third thing which he highlighted was the political space which had been given in Canada to anti-India elements. So, you can draw your conclusions from that, why Australia Today channel was blocked by Canada.”
Editorial PerspectiveThe only appropriate response left for India now is to sever all ties with Canada. India should treat Canada in the same way it deals with Pakistan. |
