Nalasopara (Thane District) – A TTE at Nalasopara Railway Station allegedly compelled a Marathi couple, bearing the surname Patil, to provide a written assurance stating they would refrain from speaking Marathi while on the train. Activists from the Marathi Ekikaran Samiti took a firm stance on this issue. The TTE, identified as Ritesh Maurya, had reportedly confined the couple in his office, and a video of the incident was widely circulated on social media. Following protests and a sit-in by the Marathi Ekikaran Samiti at the station, Maurya was suspended.

The situation arose when Amit Patil and his wife were travelling and were asked to show their tickets by Maurya. As the couple had difficulty understanding Maurya’s language, they responded in Marathi. This led to Maurya allegedly stating, “We are Indians; we will speak in Hindi. Marathi won’t be used in the railway.” The Patils were then reportedly held in the inspector’s office, with their attempt to film the incident allegedly being thwarted, as Maurya demanded the video be deleted from their phone.
