Mangaluru (Karnataka) – Pejawar Muth’s head, Shri Vishwaprasanna Teertha Swamiji, indirectly criticized Congress MLA BK Hariprasad, stating that those who denounce caste systems are often the ones sustaining them. While some proclaim they are free from caste, they continue to support the system in various sectors, he remarked during a religious assembly at Kulaiy Chitrapur Muth.

Responding to Hariprasad’s comments regarding the caste enumeration issue, Swamiji said, “We never called anyone and dictated, ‘Do this.’ People came to us asking, ‘What is your opinion?’ Our stance is, ‘If you claim to be without caste, then why count caste groups?’ Such statements reflect petty politics.”

He continued, “If they admit, ‘What we said was wrong,’ then is this a democratic country or not? Is the right to speak reserved only for politicians? Doesn’t the common man also have a voice? Are they implying that democracy has ended and now it’s just the rule of politicians? In a democratic nation, not just religious leaders but also ordinary citizens should have the right to express their opinions!”
