
Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) – The ‘Intelligence and Enforcement Wing’ of the State Goods and Services Tax (GST) Department in Thrissur, Kerala, recently conducted raids on gold jewelry manufacturers, seizing 120 kg of unaccounted gold. Approximately 700 officers from the State GST Department raided 78 locations, uncovering evidence of five years’ worth of tax evasion.
This is one of the largest raids conducted by the State GST Department. The raids targeted jewellery manufacturing units where gold is melted and prepared for jewelry, as well as the residences of prominent gold business owners.
According to officials, many manufacturers were found engaged in gold dealings without paying taxes, and evidence of tax evasion by some owners was discovered during these raids. The authorities have confirmed the recovery of documentation substantiating tax evasion practices.
