New Delhi – Following statements made against caste-based census, B.K. Hariprasad, a member of the Legislative Council criticised Sri Vishwaprasanna Tirtha Swami of the Pejawar Mutt. He said that Swamiji is making political statements. Earlier, Swamiji never commented on political issues; however, since the construction of the Shriram Temple in Ayodhya, he has begun to speak on various matters. Although it is said that Swamiji is renounced and detached, he has changed now. If Swamiji comes without his saffron robes, we will teach him a lesson, Hariprasad said in a rather derogatory tone.

What had Sri Vishwaprasanna Tirtha Swamiji said ?
Two days ago, while speaking to reporters in Shivamogga, Sri Vishwaprasanna Tirtha Swamiji of the Pejawar Mutt remarked that in a secular nation, what is the need for a caste-based census ? The Government has already incurred significant expenses for caste-based census. On the one hand, they claim that ‘there is no need for caste-based politics’, and on the other, they say that ‘such a census is necessary’. The necessity for a caste-based census is unclear.
Brahmin organisations oppose MLA Hariprasad’s statements
Bagalkot – The Akhil Karnataka Brahmin Mahasabha and the Brahmin Youth Association have demanded that Congress leader B.K. Hariprasad should apologise immediately for using derogatory language regarding the respected Sri Vishwaprasanna Tirtha Swamiji, who expressed opinions on the caste-based census. They released a statement making this demand.
The press release emphasizes that everyone has the right to speak equally in a democracy. Swamiji has not criticised anyone regarding the caste-based census. To achieve equality in society, it is inappropriate to divide society based on castes and glorify them, which is what his statement reflects. The Brahmin organisations have warned that Hariprasad should apologise quickly, or they will have to enter the fray. (Sri Vishwaprasanna Tirtha Swamiji is a Saint of the entire Hindu community. Therefore, not just Brahmins, but everyone should support him ! – Editor)
Editorial PerspectiveIf a Maulana or Maulavi had made such statements instead of Pejawar Swami, let alone criticism, MLA Hariprasad would have probably endorsed their remarks ! This excessive tolerance among Hindus is the reason that anybody comes forward and resorts to mudslinging Hindu Saints ! |
