Kolkata – Violence broke out in Shyampur area of Howrah district during Durga Puja festival in Bengal. Some fanatic Muslims set fire to the Durga Puja pandal and vandalised the idols. Some even threw stones at the immersion ghat. This created tension during the Durga Puja festival. A curfew has been imposed here.
In this case, Howrah (Rural) Superintendent of Police Swati Bhangalia registered a crime and arrested the accused. She said that as they received complaints from people about vandalism in some pandals, Police force was immediately sent to the spot. Some people even attacked the Police. Now the situation is under control.
BJP MLA and Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari condemns the violence
Today a group of miscreants while returning from the Shyampur Police Station where they went to submit a deputation, went berserk and started vandalising the Durga Puja Pandals.

BJP MLA and Leader of Opposition in Bengal Suvendu Adhikari condemned the violence and demanded strict action against the culprits. Suvendu Adhikari demanded that the Home Secretary of Bengal should intervene immediately in the case of stone pelting and vandalism of idols during the immersion of idols.
BJP IT chief Amit Malviya criticized the Mamata Banerjee-led Bengal Government saying, ‘The fanatics targeted the Durga Puja pandal and the idol of Goddess Shri Durga and created a ruckus. This is an insult to the cultural and religious heritage.’
