Tehran (Iran) – “The enemies of Islam have always tried to make us indifferent with regard to our shared identity as an Islamic Ummah. We cannot consider ourselves to be Muslims if we are oblivious to the suffering that a Muslim is enduring in Myanmar, Gaza, India, or any other place,” said Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a baseless accusation. India has responded to Khamenei’s remarks. “We reject the statement made by Iran’s Supreme Leader and strongly condemn his comments,” said a statement from India’s Ministry of External Affairs.

Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal, posted on ‘X’, saying, “We strongly deplore the comments made regarding minorities in India by the Supreme Leader of Iran. These are misinformed and unacceptable. Countries commenting on minorities are advised to look at their own record before making any observations about others.”

Khamenei, you are a killer and oppressor of your own people – Israel

Israel’s new ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, tagged Khamenei on ‘X’, writing, ‘Khamenei, you are a killer and oppressor of your own people. Muslims in Israel, India, and all democracies enjoy freedom, which is denied in Iran. I wish the people of Iran will be free soon.”

Previous anti-India statements by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei,

During the riots in Delhi in March 2020, Khamenei stated, “The hearts of Muslims all over the world are grieving over the massacre of Muslims in India. The Government of India should confront extremist Hindus and their parties and stop the massacre of Muslims in order to prevent India’s isolation from the world of Islam.”

In 2017, Khamenei compared Kashmir to Gaza and Yemen.

After the abrogation of Article 370, Khamenei expressed concern, saying, “We are worried about the situation of Muslims in Kashmir. We have good relations with India. In such circumstances, we hope India will take necessary steps to stop the oppression of Muslims in Kashmir.”

Editorial Perspectives

  • Do Indian leaders ever speak out about the atrocities committed against Hindus in Islamic countries ?
  • In Gaza, Hamas’ Jihadi terrorists are being killed, while Myanmar has expelled rebellious Rohingya Muslims. On the contrary, in India, radical Muslims are attacking Hindus, but Khamenei will never acknowledge this.
