Guwahati (Assam) – A third-year computer science student of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati was found dead in his hostel room on 9thSeptember. The student, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, was staying in the Brahmaputra hostel. As soon as the information about this incident came to light, the police started investigating the incident. The body of this student has been sent for post- mortem. A police official said that the cause of death was yet to be ascertained.
Agitation by angry students
As soon as the death of this student was known, the angry students protested on the university premises saying that he should get justice and students studying at IIT should get the necessary psychological help. The protesting students alleged that the deceased student was suffering from physical problems and was mentally disturbed. He was undergoing treatment. He could not concentrate on his studies. Even though he submitted the necessary medical certificates, he was ignored. As a result, the student’s mental health worsened.
This was the fourth death of a student at IIT Guwahati this year. Earlier on 9thAugust, a student’s body was found hanging in her room.
