Dahi Handi celebrated with great enthusiasm across the State; 15 Govindas injured in Mumbai

Mumbai – Dahi Handi festival was celebrated with great enthusiasm across the State. In Mumbai the festival was celebrated with great cheer. However, a total of 15 Govindas, who had climbed to break the Dahi Handi at higher levels of human pyramids at various places, got injured due to accidental fall. Currently they are being treated in the hospitals. Their condition is stable.

The State Government and the Municipality hospitals are kept prepared to attend the injured Govindas. In the last 2 years, more than 200 Govindas have been injured.

Prizes worth lakhs of rupees

Dahi Handi festival was organised at nearly 1,354 places in Mumbai and Thane. This year too, prizes worth lakhs of rupees were announced. This year, the Govinda team which enters the Guiness Book of World records, will receive Rs 25 lakhs in prize money. In Thane, for CM Eknath Shinde’s Dahi Handi at Tembhi Naka, CM has announced Rs 1.51 lakh prize money for the men’s Govinda team and Rs 1 lakh for women’s Govinda team.

2 individuals electrocuted in Vardha

Vardha – 2 individuals who had gone to check the DJ sound system for Dahi Handi, died due to electric shock. Their names are, Suraj Binduji Bavane (age 27) and Sejal Kishor Bavane (age 13). The accident occurred when they were trying to get electric connection directly from the main line of Electricity Distribution Corporation.
