Henceforth, the dress code for the convocation ceremony will not be in the British period black robe (‘gown’), but in Indian attire !

The convocation is now in Indian attire!

New Delhi – Students are not required to wear black robes and caps during convocation ceremonies held in various educational institutions especially, medical colleges. The Union Health Ministry has directed all central hospitals to wear Indian attire during convocation ceremonies instead of adopting this British colonial symbol.

According to the Ministry of Health, the wearing of black robes and caps is a legacy of colonial times. This was not according to Indian culture. The dress worn at the convocation ceremony should be traditional, representing the state in which the institution is located. Now there is a need to change this colonial legacy. This decision is a step towards moving away from India’s colonial legacy.

Editorial Perspective

Applaudable decision by the Union Government. Now steps should be taken to change the present English education system to completely Indian education system !
