Bangladesh’s interim Government apologises for failing to protect Hindus

Dhaka (Bangladesh) – Bangladesh’s new Home Affairs Adviser, Sakhawat Hussain, has apologised for not adequately protecting the Hindu community. He stated that it is the duty of the Muslim majority to protect the Hindu minority.

Against the backdrop of ongoing violence in Bangladesh, Sakhawat Hussain has also called on protesters to surrender all illegal weapons to the Police by 19th August. He warned that the administration would take action against those who fail to surrender their weapons at the nearest Police station. Additionally, he emphasised that anyone found in possession of illegal weapons would face criminal charges.

Editorial Perspective

Merely offering an apology is not enough; compensation should be provided to the Hindus who have suffered harm. The perpetrators of the violence should be given strict punishment. An independent law and ministry should be established for the permanent protection of Hindus.
