Kathmandu (Nepal) – Nepal’s Maoist Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal alias Prachanda was unable to prove his majority in the motion of trust for his government. Prachanda had to step down from the post of Prime Ministership. On the Trust motion held on the 12thof July 2024 Prime Minister Prachanda got only 63 votes while there were 194 votes in opposition.
The former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli played a big role in bringing down Prachanda’s government. Till then Oli’s ‘Nepal Communist Party’ supported Prachanda’s ‘Nepal Communist Party -Maoist’. Nepal had elections in 2022, where no party had a clear majority. In this election the Nepal Congress came out as the largest party with 89 seats, while Oli got 79 seats. Prachanda’s party got only 30 places yet he could form the government with the support of Oli. This government was in Power for 19 months.
Debate on amending the Constitution is happening again and again in Nepal
The internal politics of Nepal has been unstable since monarchy came to an end in Nepal in the year 2008. Since 2008 to 2024 Nepal has had 13 Prime Ministers. In this period their have been amendments in its Constitutions. After the fall of Prachanda’s government again debate about amending the Constitution has begun once again.
