Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh) – Millions of years before the birth of the concept of ‘Waqf’, i.e. since Satyayug, the Kumbh Mela is being organized at the holy Triveni Sangam of Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati. The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti strongly opposes the encroachment claim made by the Waqf Board on the Kumbh Mela, which is the oldest pilgrimage in the world. The Hindu Janajagruti Samiti has taken a firm stand that it is inappropriate to encroach on this Maha Kumbha, which has been organized at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj since time immortal. A press conference was organized by the Samiti at Maha Kumbha Kshetra, i.e. Prayagraj. The conference was addressed by the Samiti’s national guide Sadguru Dr Charudatta Pingale, as well as the national spokesperson of Sanatan Sanstha Chetan Rajhans.

Sadguru Dr Pingle further said,

1. Kumbh Mela is not just a religious event but a symbol of Sanatan culture. The fair is organized on the banks of the Ganga, which is revered as a mother in Hindu Dharma. The holy land of the Ganga cannot belong to any particular community.

2. Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi recently claimed over 54 bighas of land at the Kumbh Mela site to be a Waqf property. This claim is not only baseless but also a well-planned attempt to spoil the sacred atmosphere of the Kumbh Mela and to hurt the faith of the followers of Sanatan Dharma.

3. There are many temples in our country which have been encroached upon by mosques. We would like to ask Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi whether he can show the generosity to restore the encroached temples ?

4. Hindu Janajagruti Samiti appeals to the Indian Government to take strict steps to maintain the sanctity of the Kumbh Mela. Legal action should be taken against maulana and his baseless claim should be rejected.

5. Hindu Janajagruti Samiti is determined to maintain the sanctity of Kumbh Mela. We appeal to the Hindu community to unite on this basis and put pressure on the Government to take action.
