Hindu Sena files petition to ban PM Modi’s chadar offering at Ajmer Dargah

Hindu Sena has filed a petition in the Court claiming Ajmer Dargah to be a former Hindu temple

New Delhi – Prime Minister Narendra Modi sends a chadar to be offered at the Moinuddin Chishti Dargah in Ajmer, Rajasthan, on the occasion of Urs (a Muslim religious procession). Hindu Sena President Vishnu Gupta has filed a petition in the Ajmer Court requesting a temporary ban on this practice.

The petition alleges that the dargah was constructed after demolishing an ancient Shiva Temple. It claims that offering the chadar on behalf of the Prime Minister could influence judicial proceedings related to the site. The act, it argues, violates the independence of the judiciary and the right to a fair trial. The petition further argues that architectural elements and other features of the site point to its origins as a Hindu temple. For example, the design of the main entrance roof and dome is reflective of Hindu temple architecture. The Hindu Sena has demanded that the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) investigate the site and restore Shri Sankatmochan Mahadev Temple there. The petition also claims that there is a Shivling in the underground passage of the dargah, and Hindus have a constitutional right to worship it, a right that is currently being denied. Last month, the Court had issued a notice to the ASI regarding this matter.

Chadar offered on behalf of the Prime Minister

On 2nd January, Prime Minister Narendra Modi handed over the chadar to Union Minister for Minority Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, for it to be presented at the dargah during Urs. On 4th January, Rijiju visited Ajmer and offered the chadar, praying for peace and harmony in the country.

Offering the chadar on behalf of the Prime Minister is akin to offering it on behalf of the entire nation : Kiren Rijiju

Earlier, at Jaipur Airport, Rijiju stated, “Offering a chadar on behalf of Prime Minister Modi is akin to offering it on behalf of the entire nation. There should be a positive atmosphere in the country.

Millions of people visit the Ajmer Dargah, and they often face difficulties. To address this, the ‘Garib Nawaz’ app and website are being launched.” (Why hasn’t the Government made similar efforts for prominent Hindu temples ? While Hindu temples have been brought under Government control, why hasn’t this dargah been similarly regulated ? These are questions that arise in the minds of Hindus – Editor)
