London (UK) – Although the Labour Party has gained significant victory in the recent United Kingdom elections, a Conservative candidate has been elected in Leicester East after 37 years. This constituency, traditionally a Labour stronghold, saw the election of 29-year-old Shivani Raja of Indian origin.

A video of Shivani Raja taking her oath of office with her hand on the Bhagavad Gita has circulated widely. She herself shared the video on ‘X’, and it has garnered appreciation from Hindus everywhere.

1. Posting the video, she wrote, “It’s a moment of honour for me to be sworn in to Parliament today to represent Leicester East.” She expressed her pride while taking the oath.

2. Shivani Raja secured 14,526 votes, defeating her opposition candidate by a margin of 4,426 votes.

3. MP Shivani Raja’s parents are from Gujarat. She was born in Leicester in 1995.

4. In the United Kingdom elections, 650 constituencies were contested. The Labour Party won 412 seats, while the Conservative Party managed to win only 121 seats. Following the defeat, Indian-origin Rishi Sunak stepped down as Prime Minister, and Labour leader Keir Starmer took over the position.
