New Delhi – A video of a Muslim woman sharing her ordeal regarding ‘Halala’ has gone viral on social media. In the video, the victim explains, “I married my husband and moved into my in-laws’ home. After some time, we got divorced. Following the divorce, I was made to undergo ‘Halala’ with my father-in-law. As a result, I became the mother of my husband’s child. Later, I remarried my husband. However, he divorced me again. Following this, my husband insisted I perform ‘Halala’ with his brother. This subjected me to various forms of abuse. At one point, I was my husband’s mother; at another, his sister-in-law; and sometimes, his wife. Is this what I am meant for ? ‘Halala’ should be abolished,” the woman expressed.
The victim further revealed :
In 2009, I got married. When I couldn’t conceive for two years, my husband divorced me. To keep the matter within the family, he asked me to perform ‘Halala’ with his father. Consequently, I was married to my father-in-law and had a child with him.
In 2017, after my father-in-law divorced me, I remarried my husband.
What is ‘Halala’ ?
In Islam, if a woman wants to remarry her husband after being divorced, she must first consummate a marriage with another man.
