Growing trend among young and single men in the US to attend orthodox church

Washington – The US is witnessing a growing trend among young and single men of turning away from Catholic or Protestant church, and instead, attending Orthodox Christian church. The trend is witnessed post the COVID-19 pandemic. The increased availability of online content during the pandemic has helped young people change their mindsets about religion.

1. The Orthodox Church emphasizes long prayers, fasting, and self-control. In these churches, prayers are held for hours and fasts up to 40 days are also observed. The discipline observed in the Orthodox Church, as well as the abilities of its clergy, are attracting young people to the church.

2. According to a survey conducted by the ‘Orthodox Studies Institute’, more than 80% of people were initiated into the Orthodox Church in 2022 compared to 2019. In 2019, this figure was 54%.
