Bengaluru (Karnataka) – The process of renaming Ramanagara District in Karnataka is underway. Opposition party BJP has been protesting against this decision. ‘Congress Government is trying to change the name of the District to ‘Bengaluru South’ as the name ‘Ramanagara’ has ’Ram’ in it. We will never accept this,’ stated the BJP.

Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka D.K. Shivakumar has sent the proposal to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to change the name. This is the second time that Shivakumar has demanded the Chief Minister to change the name of Ramanagara District. Shivakumar and some others have submitted a letter to Siddaramaiah requesting in this regard.

After meeting the Chief Minister in this regard, Shivakumar said that the purpose of the demand for name change is that Ramanagara, Magadi, Kanakapura, Channapatna and Harohalli talukas near the city should benefit from the global reputation of Bangalore city.

Former Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka and BJP leader C.N. Ashwath Narayan said that although Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has taken the initiative to change the name, he would never develop Ramanagara District. They have also shifted the medical college from there.

Former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy said, ‘After the transfer of power in Karnataka, we will once again name this District ‘Ramanagara’.

Editorial Perspectives

  • Has Congress ever changed the names of places named after Tipu Sultan, Aurangzeb, Humayun, Akbar etc. to Hindu names ? If Congress does so, will Muslims tolerate ? Hindus should oppose the attempts to change the name of Ramanagara in a legal manner.
  • It is shameful for the Hindus who voted Congress to power in Karnataka, that this Government is running an Islamic regime in the State.
  • Will Chief Minister Sidda‘ram’aiah remove ‘Ram’ from his name too ?
