Bengal Governor files a defamation suit against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata (Bengal) – Governor of Bengal C V Anand Bose has lodged a case of defamation against the State CM Mamata Banerjee and a few other ministers of TMC. This is the first incident of its kind where the Governor of the State has filed a defamation suit against the Chief Minister. The Governor and CM have been at loggerheads for the past several days. Few women have logged a complaint of harassment against the Governor. Speaking about this, Mamata had said, “Some women have complained to me that they are scared to visit the Rajbhavan due to recent incidents reported there”.

On 2nd May, during Loksabha elections, a seasonal worker had accused the Governor of harassment. Mamata Government had handed over the investigation into this matter to the Police, post which the Governor had banned entry of Police in the Rajbhavan.

In a related incident, a classical Odissi dancer working in a five star hotel in Delhi, has accused Governor Bose of sexual assault.

In a post on ‘X’, the Governor refuted the claims against him. He said, “This is a conspiracy to defame me with these dumbfounded accusations. The truth will prevail. I am not scared of such false accusations. If someone wants to benefit in elections by defaming me, may God bless them. I cannot stop fighting against corruption and violence.”
