Indian citizen Nikhil Gupta denies the charges against him in the US court

The case of plotting the murder of Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun

New York, US – Last year, Nikhil Gupta was accused by US federal prosecutors of plotting with an Indian Government official to kill Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a US resident who advocated for a sovereign Sikh state in northern India. When Gupta was produced before the court on 17th June, he pleaded not guilty in federal court. He denied all the charges against him and said that he was innocent. Nikhil Gupta appeared in court on Monday afternoon for the first time after being extradited from the Czech Republic and landing in the US on 14th June. US authorities charge him with trying to hire a hitman to assassinate Sikh separatist leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a dual US-Canadian citizen. Advocate Jeff Chabrowe represented Nikhil Gupta in court.

1. Nikhil Gupta had filed a petition in a court in the Czech Republic requesting that he not be extradited to the US; but the court rejected Nikhil Gupta’s plea.

2. The US has accused Nikhil Gupta of acting on the orders of unidentified Indian Government officials.

3. The Indian government denies involvement in the plots and has also rejected all the allegations of the US. The Ministry of External Affairs has clarified that India has nothing to do with this, however, a high-level investigation has been started.

4. The US has alleged that Mr Gupta paid 15 thousand dollars in advance in cash to a hitman to assassinate Pannun. The hitman, they added, was an undercover federal agent.
