New Delhi – The petition demanding release of Abubacker, former Chief of the banned Jihadi organisation ‘Popular Front of India (PFI)’, was dismissed by the Delhi High Court on 28th May 2024. Abubacker was apprehended by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in 2022 under the ‘Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act’ (UAPA) and was sent to judicial custody. Abubacker was arrested during NIA’s massive crackdown on the organisation in 2022.
Decision of the trial Court upheld
E Abubacker had first sought release on bail through a petition in the trial Court, but his appeal was rejected. He then challenged the Court’s decision in the Delhi High Court, demanding bail on medical grounds. A Bench of the Delhi High Court of Justice Suresh Kumar Kait and Justice Manoj Jain dismissed his petition and denied bail.
Serious accusations against PFI
As per NIA, the PFI, its members and office bearers hatched a criminal conspiracy to raise funds for committing acts of terror across the country and were conducting training camps to indoctrinate and train their cadre for this purpose.
