Calcutta High Court cancels all OBC certificates issued in West Bengal after 2010

Kolkata (Bengal) – The Calcutta High Court has rejected all Other Backward Castes (OBC) certificates issued in West Bengal since 2010, labelling the list as illegal. As per the Court’s directive, the ‘Bengal Commission for Backward Classes’ is tasked with creating a new OBC list in accordance with the Bengal Commission for Backward Classes Act, 1993.

Won’t accept Court order : CM Mamata Banerjee

On the High Court verdict, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, “Today I heard that a famous judge has issued an order. Minorities can never touch tribals or their reservation; but these malicious people (BJP) get their work done through the machinery. I do not agree with the Court order. When 26,000 people lost their jobs because of the BJP, I will not accept it. I am saying today that I do not agree with today’s order. We will not obey the orders of the BJP. OBC reservation will remain. Imagine their courage, this is a chapter that tarnishes the country. Why don’t they talk about the policies of the BJP ruled States ? This (OBC reservation) was approved by the Cabinet and the Assembly and the Court had also decided.”

Editorial Perspective

It is concerning when any leader disregards a Court ruling, as it undermines the rule of law and the principles of democracy. Why are the political parties silent about this ? Or do they agree with Mamata Banerjee ?
