‘West Nile’ fever spreads in Kerala

Warning in Malappuram, Kozhikode and Thrissur Districts

New Delhi – Kerala State Health Department has warned about the ‘West Nile’ fever spread in 3 Districts. Malappuram, Kozhikode and Thrissur Districts of the State have reported cases of this fever. Guidelines to avoid getting infected with this fever have also been circulated. The department has also directed all local administrations in the State to conduct awareness programmes.

Health Minister Veena George has appealed to the public to immediately inform the health department if any symptoms of this virus were found in anyone. This virus was similar to dengue and there was no need to panic. So far 5 cases have been reported and 4 of them have recovered.

What is ‘West Nile’ fever ?

Mosquitoes spread this disease. Its main symptoms are headache, fever, muscle pain, dizziness, etc. As there is no medicine for this disease, it needs to be arrested fast. If not treated in time, the disease may affect the patient’s brain and cause death too.
