Won’t get involved, but we encourage India and Pakistan to avoid escalation : USA

The US reacts to PM Modi’s statement of killing terrorists in their homes

Matthew Miller

New York (USA) – Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently made a statement during the election campaign in Uttarakhand about the tough decisions being taken by the Union Government to end terrorism in the country. He said that ‘today India has a strong Government. Terrorists are being killed in their homes.’ The US has reacted to this. US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said in a press conference that ‘the United States is not going to get into this, but we encourage both India and Pakistan to avoid escalation and find a resolution through dialogue.’ Pakistan has been accusing India of targetted killings for a while.

Anti-India reporting by Marathi daily Loksatta

Termed US’ advice as ‘valuable advice’

This news has been published on the website of Marathi daily ‘Loksatta’. The news says that the US has given valuable advice to India. It reads, ‘The US has given a valuable advice to India that it does not want to meddle in India-Pakistan dispute, but both the countries should find a resolution through dialogue.’

Editorial Perspectives

  • On the one hand, the US claims that it will not intervene in India-Pakistan matter, while on the other hand, it preaches India with unwarranted advice. What does this mean ? India should tell the US that it has no right to talk about the decisions or actions of India directed towards maintaining its integrity and sovereignty.
  • Does ‘Loksatta’ realise that calling US’ covert plan to undermine India as a ‘valuable advice’ is tantamount to tarnishing India’s global image ?
