Indore (Madhya Pradesh) – The Indore Bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court has directed a scientific survey of Bhojshala at Dhar as was done for ‘Gyanvapi’. During the hearing of a petition, the High Court asked the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to form a team of five experts, giving them six weeks to submit their report.

Hindu litigants have demanded a ban on namaz at the disputed site. The Court has directed to take photos of the survey and video-shoot the area using GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) and GPS (Global Positioning System). GPR is a geophysical non-intrusive method of surveying the sub-surface to investigate underground utilities.

While posting a copy of the High Court’s order, Advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain stated that his request for the archaeological survey of Bhojshala complex has been accepted by the Indore Bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court and it has agreed to the scientific survey.

Muslims desecrate Bhojshala’s Yajna-kunda

On 1st May 2022, ‘Hindu Front for Justice’ filed a petition with the Indore Bench demanding the handing over of the control of Bhojshala to Hindus. Every Tuesday, Hindus purify Bhojshala by performing Yajnas and on Fridays, Muslims desecrate the Yajna-kunda. This should be stopped. There is also a demand for the excavation of Bhojshala, besides taking photos and video-shooting.

What is the dispute ?

Dhar’s ‘Bhojshala’ was built by Raja Bhoj. As per the information available on the District Administration’s website, it was a college earlier where the Idol of Vagdevi (Goddess Saraswati) was installed. Muslim invaders attacked and converted it into a mosque. Its ruins are found even in Maulana Kamaluddin Mosque which is on the premises of Bhojshala. The Idol of Vagdevi is kept in a London Museum.

Hindus allowed to perform puja and Muslims to offer namaz

Every Tuesday, Hindus are allowed to perform puja, while Friday, Muslims are allowed in Bhojshala between 1.00 p.m. and 3.00 p.m. for namaz. Entry is free for all. Hindus can also perform Saraswati-puja and havan on Vasant Panchami.

In 2006, 2012, and 2016, there was a problem since Vasant Panchami fell on a Friday. Hindus were allowed to perform puja on Vasant Panchami and Muslims to offer namaz; therefore, when Vasant Panchami falls on a Friday, attention is focused on the matter of puja and namaz.

What is GPR and GPS

GPR means Ground Penetrating Radar. It is a technology to test underground structures. It can accurately measure things and structures that are under the ground. Similarly, GPS means Global Positioning System, which is also used in a survey of land.

Editorial Perspective

The survey will prove that the Bhojshala also belongs to Hindus. Similar action needs to be taken for all temples that were demolished and mosques built over them. Will it not be logical for the Union Government to direct the ASI to take action instead of going to Court ?
