Student harassed by teacher and Principal for chanting ‘Jai Shriram’ in class

Incident at a Christian Missionary School in Assam

Guwahati (Assam) – A 10-year-old student was harassed for chanting ‘Jai Shriram’ in class at Calvary English School, a missionary school in Khelamati near Balipara in Sonitpur District of Assam. The incident took place on 5th February. In this case, the Hindu organisation ‘Kutumb Suraksha Parishad’ has demanded action against the school administration.

1. The minor student, studying in the fourth grade of the school, initially accused the class teacher and then the principal of physical abuse. The student had chanted ‘Jai Shriram’ in the class. After the student informed the parents about the incident, they asked the school administration for an explanation about the incident. After receiving a complaint about the incident, a team from Chariduar Police Station and District Primary Education Officer instructed the school administration to ‘ensure that such incidents do not recur’.

2. In a letter to Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, Kutumb Suraksha Parishad President Satya Ranjan Bora said that the school authority has violated the rights of children and human rights under Article 51(A) of the Indian Constitution.

3. The organisation has also asked the teachers to dress like ordinary people, not according to Christianity.

Editorial Perspective

It is now necessary to close anti-Hindu madarasas and Christian missionary schools. Hindu organisations should now try to put pressure on the Government to do this.
