The Supreme Court rebuked the DMK Govt of Tamil Nadu for blocking the live telecast of the inauguration of Shriram Temple

(DMK stands for Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam)

New Delhi – The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Tamil Nadu Government not to summarily reject requests for live streaming of Shriram Lalla’s pranapratishtha (consecration ceremony) in the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya, as a PIL claimed the State has banned it. The Court said that the permission couldn’t be rejected on the sole ground that other communities are living in the locality. The Apex Court has also asked the State to maintain data on the applications received and decisions taken. The petition, representing BJP’s state unit secretary Vinoj P Selvam, has been filed by Advocate G Balaji. “The Government has also banned all kinds of pujas, Archana and annadanam (poor feeding) bhajans on this auspicious occasion. Such arbitrary exercise of power by the State Government (through Police officials) per se violates fundamental rights guaranteed under the Constitution,” it added.

The Supreme Court has sought information from the State Government regarding the approval and later rejection of worship applications and live telecast before the next hearing. What reasons were given in this? it has also been asked.
