New Delhi – As per a report of the Union Government, 2.75 lakh children in India have gone missing in the last 5 years. Out of them, 2.4 lakh children have been traced. Among the missing children, the number of girls is higher. The Union Government informed while replying to a related question in the Parliament that there are 35,000 missing children in the country. Most of the children who could not be traced are from MP and Bengal. The Child helpline is searching for the missing children.

In 2021, 53,874 crimes were registered under the POCSO Act. In crimes against children, every 3rd crime is registered under the POCSO Act.
According to National Crime Records Bureau, in 2021, there were 2,834 cases of child trafficking. This means 8 children per day were kidnapped for labour, begging and sexual exploitation. In 2018, the number was 2,914 cases of child trafficking; in 2019, there were 2,914 cases; in 2020, there were 2,222 cases. Child trafficking stretches as far as the Gulf countries.
As per National Crime Records Bureau, in 2020, 66,01,285 crimes were registered in the country. In 2021, the total number of crimes had increased by 16%. In 2020, 1,28,535 crimes were committed against children. In 2021, this figure had risen to 1,49,404.
