Unanimous demand by organisations working for the welfare of minorities in Bangladesh at a Press Conference
Dhaka (Bangladesh) – Various human rights organisations in Bangladesh have demanded the formation of a judicial commission to investigate atrocities against minorities. A meeting regarding this matter was recently held, as informed by H. H. (Adv.) Rabindra Ghosh, the founder-president of Bangladesh Minority Watch, to Sanatan Prabhat. During this meeting, the interim Government was urged to ensure justice in all cases of atrocities against minority Hindus and provide compensation to the affected families.
The meeting was organised on the theme ‘Political unity is essential for the protection of human rights of minorities’ at the Dhaka Reporters Unity Auditorium. The meeting was presided over by H. H. (Adv.) Rabindra Ghosh, the president of Bangladesh Minority Watch and Human Rights Alliance. A press conference was held after this.
1. During this event, speeches were delivered by Mahbub Haque, the convener of Human Rights Front, Bangladesh, Mahmudur Rahman Manna, president of Nagorik Oikya, Saiful Haque, Secretary-General of the Revolutionary Workers Party, Advocate Subrata Chowdhury, Secretary-General of Gano Forum, and Zonayed Saki, Chief Coordinator of Ganosanhati Andolan.
2. Prof. Robaet Ferdous of Dhaka University, central member of ‘National Citizens Committee’ Ariful Islam Adeeb, Chairman of ‘River and Delta Research Center’ Mohammad Azaz and others also provided their insights.
3. Mahmudur Rahman Manna, president of Nagorik Oikya, said, “Who benefits from the ongoing attacks on minorities in Bangladesh ? And what steps have been taken to prevent them ?’ He further stated that an analysis of the facts and references reveals that these attacks were not just religiously motivated in the past three months, but also politically driven.
4. Saiful Haque said that Bangladesh must eliminate political, economic, and social inequality in society to establish an egalitarian democratic state.
5. Zonayed Saki said that the attacks on the Hindu community were part of a political campaign being orchestrated by the Awami League. A section of the Indian press is attempting to convince the United States that minorities in Bangladesh are being persecuted.
Editorial PerspectiveMaking demands to the anti-Hindu Government in Bangladesh will not yield any results. To protect the interests of Hindus there, the Indian Government must take strong measures and force Bangladesh to comply. For this, vigilant Hindus must compel the Government to take strict measures ! |
