Ramnath Devasthan – The original Islamic concept of ‘Halal’, which is actually applicable to meat, has been applied in every sector such as vegetarian food, medicines, hospitals, buildings, restaurants, tourism, websites etc. Not only foreign, but Indian vegetarian establishments like Haldiram, Bikano are also selling Halal certified food to consumers. Although the demand for halal products is only from the 14% Muslim population, these halal products are being imposed on the majority of Hindus, as well as other minorities including Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Christians etc.
Even though the Constitution has given freedom to all, there is a need to act against Halal imposition, as well as against the parallel economy that is being erected through Halal [certifications]. A large-scale public awareness campaign on Halal was carried out last year. Also, an ‘Anti Halal Imposition Action Committee’ is being formed in various states with representatives of Hindu, legal, social and business organizations participating. Without stopping at this, a far fiercer fight against the Halal economy is necessary, said Karnataka State Spokesperson of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti Mr Mohan Gowda. He was addressing the audience on Day 5 of the Vaishvik Hindu Rashtra Mahotsav (20.6.2023).
