The Gujarat riots, the history of Mughals, the ban on RSS and Mahatma Gandhi’s murder will be included

Kochi (Kerala) – The State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT) in Kerala is going to change the history and social science textbooks for Classes XI and XII. It is important to note that the State Government is going to include lessons in the syllabus which were recently omitted by the NCERT from its textbooks. The State Education Department has sent a proposal regarding this matter to the Chief Minister of Kerala. Once approved, the portions will be added to the syllabus immediately. The Government is going to add portions about the 2002 riots in Gujarat, the history of Mughal rule, a ban on Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the murder of Mahatma Gandhi. It should also be noted that recently the same portion was omitted from NCERT textbooks of the Union Government.

Recently, Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Binoy Viswam, wrote a letter to the Modi Government expressing concern about the ‘deletion of Mughals’ from NCERT textbooks. Ironically, it was the CPM Government in Bengal, which had ordered that there should be no mention of Muslim atrocities in textbooks during their tenure.
