Karachi (Pakistan) – Hindus protested against the growing incidents of forced conversions of Hindus, abduction and forced marriages of minor Hindu girls with Muslim men in Pakistan, etc. by surrounding the Sindh Assembly in Karachi. This is the largest protest rally by Pakistani Hindus. The Pakistan Government’s representatives visited the protest. Dr Khatu Mal Jeewan, who is the Special Assistant on Human Rights for the Chief Minister of Sindh Province was one of the representatives. Hindus submitted a letter with 14 demands. Hindus also warned of another protest outside the house of Bilawal Bhutto, Chief of Pakistan People’s Party and incumbent Minister of Foreign Affairs, if the demands are not accepted within a month. The protest was withdrawn after the representatives promised that the demands will be accepted.

1. Protest was led by the Pakistan Darawar Ittehad (PDI), an organisation working for the minority rights. The Chief of PDI, Faqir Shiva, said that the primary objective of this protest is the strict implementation of anti-Child Marriage Act. Also, the parliament must pass a bill against forced conversions.

2. Ram Bhil, a victim who participated in the protest said, ‘Few years ago, my 16-year-old daughter was abducted and married off forcefully. We do not want people to misuse Islam’s name to oppress our daughters’.
