Popular Gauri Shankar Temple in Canada vandalised

Anti-India graffiti on the walls !

The intention underlying display of this image is not to hurt religious sentiments of Hindus, but make them comprehend the denigration –  Editor, Dainik Sanatan Prabhat

Brampton (Canada) –The walls of the popular Gauri Shankar temple in Brampton were defaced with anti-India graffiti by Khalistanis reportedly by the banned outfit Sikhs For Justice (SFJ). The slogan of ‘Khalistan Zindabad, Hindustan Murdabad’  was spray-painted on the outer wall of Gauri Shankar Temple. The Indian Consulate in Toronto, Canada has issued a statement condemning the incident. They said, ‘We strongly condemn defacing of Gauri Shankar Mandir in Brampton, a symbol of Indian heritage, with anti-India graffiti. The hateful act of vandalism has deeply hurt the sentiments of the Indian community in Canada. We have raised our concerns on the matter with Canadian authorities.’

1. A temple was attacked in July last year. The Ministry of External Affairs of India had demanded the Canadian Government to properly investigate such incidents. 4% of citizens of Indian origin live in Canada

2. According to a report by the Canadian Office of National Statistics, there is a 72% increase in hate crimes based on religion, gender and race in Canada between 2019 and 2021. This creates fear among minorities.

Editorial Viewpoints

  • The US or European countries will keep mum, they will continue to criticise India by making false accusations on this incident.
  • Considering the activities of Khalistani in Canada so far, it cannot be denied that this attack was carried out by them ! As they have hidden support from the Canadian Government,  we cannot expect action from them to end this. The Indian Government must now make special efforts in this regard.
