Despite completing their sentence they were not released

New Delhi – Information of six Indian prisoners who have died in a Pakistani jail in the last 9 months has come to light. All of them had completed their sentence yet they were made to languish in jail. Five among the 6 dead were fishermen.

1. After this incident spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Arindam Bagchi said, despite our appeal to send back the Indian prisoners, Pakistan has still kept them imprisoned illegally. It was really the cause for concern that the number of Indian prisoners dying in jail is increasing. Our High Commissioner in Islamabad has repeatedly raised this issue of the security of Indian prisoners. It has also appealed to Pakistan Government for releasing and sending Indian prisoners immediately to India.
2. More than 300 Indian prisoners are still languishing in a Pakistani jails. According to Pakistan, they were only 260. Many among them have completed their sentence, yet Pakistan is not releasing them.
