Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) – The activities of an inter-State gang involved in religious conversions were exposed in Mohanlalganj area of the city. Police arrested 7 accused including Daniel, the mastermind of the gang, and his wife. Religious literature, books on religious conversion, bank passbooks, a four-wheeler and a diary were seized from them.

1. The main leader of this gang, Daniel, was originally a Hindu named Bala Subrahmanyam. He is from Tamil Nadu. When he was 16 years old, he fell in love with a Christian girl named Subala. On her advice, he converted to Christianity. (Note that not only Muslim girls, but also Christian girls pressure Hindu youths to convert – Editor).

2. After marriage, Daniel started the work of conversion on the advice of FGPC Church of Tamil Nadu. In 1998, the couple was sent to Lucknow. Daniel was given the responsibility as the pastor of Varanasi province and was given the target of converting maximum people every year. In return, the church used to send a large amount of funds.

3. This gang targeted the poor and helpless villagers. They brainwashed people under the guise of ‘prayer meetings’ using fake promises of curing knee pain and some incurable diseases, removing financial difficulties, arranging marriages, and removing difficulties in childbirth.

How was this exposed?

The incident came to light when Amit Kumar, a resident of Bharasawa village in Mohanlalganj, protested against the incident. The villagers were furious when the accused pressured them to convert and threatened them with dire consequences for behaving rudely. After they filed a complaint in this regard on July 22nd, the Police arrested the entire gang.
