1,676 cases registered in five years; tickets worth crores of rupees seized

Mumbai – According to information provided by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at the Central Railway Headquarters, Mumbai, to RTI activist Anil Galgali under the Right to Information Act, 2005, 1,676 cases relating to illegal railway ticket touting were registered between 2022 and June 2026. E-tickets and other railway tickets worth crores of rupees were seized in these cases. Strict action was taken against hundreds of intermediaries and touts.

1. In cases relating to illegal ticket booking and touting, 318 intermediaries and 52 touts were arrested in 2022; 356 intermediaries and 141 touts in 2023; 411 intermediaries and 204 touts in 2024; 429 intermediaries and 13 touts in 2025; and 127 intermediaries up to July 2026. No tout has been arrested so far in 2026.

2. Action was also taken against some railway employees during this period. One railway employee was arrested in 2022, two in 2023 and four in 2024. However, no railway employee was arrested in 2025 or 2026.

3. Anil Galgali stated that the information received clearly shows that the Railway Protection Force has been consistently taking effective action against illegal railway ticket touting. Passengers should purchase tickets only through authorised channels and avoid buying tickets from touts. This alone can help curb the illegal trade more effectively.
