Discussion on the Examination Reforms Bill could not take place in Parliament due to Opposition uproar !

Opposition had demanded a discussion on the lathi-charge on students

New Delhi – The discussion on the Examination Reforms Bill, scheduled to be held in Parliament on 27 July, could not take place due to the uproar created by Opposition MPs. The Opposition demanded that Parliament discuss the alleged lathi-charge on students at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, as well as the alleged firing incident in Siwan, Bihar.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla told the Opposition MPs, “I am giving time until 5 p.m. The government and the Opposition should discuss the matter among themselves and present the issue before the House.” However, no consensus could be reached. Earlier, the Lok Sabha was adjourned first until 12 noon and later until 2 p.m.

The Rajya Sabha witnessed a similar situation. The House was adjourned twice before being adjourned for the entire day at 5.15 p.m. Earlier, at 11 a.m., Union Minister Jitendra Singh introduced the Public Examination Reforms Bill in the Lok Sabha.

Meanwhile, former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan attended Parliament for the first time after resigning from his post. MPs from the ruling party honoured him by draping him with a shawl and escorted him into the Parliament building.

Editorial Perspective

• When an estimated ₹2.75 lakh is spent for every minute of Parliament's proceedings, those responsible for such disruptions, which waste crores of rupees of public money, should not only be made to reimburse the loss but should also be disqualified as Members of Parliament !
• This makes it clear that the Opposition has no genuine concern for students or the question paper leak issue, but is merely using the matter as a means to target the government !
