Shakir Hussain sentenced to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping, rape and attempted forced conversion

Badaun (Uttar Pradesh) – Maulana (an Islamic scholar) Shakir Hussain, who won the trust of a family by claiming that he could treat their son, has been convicted by a court for kidnapping a woman and her minor daughter and keeping them hostage for three months, repeatedly raping the woman and attempting to forcibly convert both of them. The Special Fast-Track Court (for crimes against women) sentenced Hussain to 10 years’ imprisonment under various sections of the law.

Hussain was sentenced to five years’ rigorous imprisonment and fined ₹50,000 under the law relating to religious conversion. For kidnapping, holding the victims hostage, rape and other offences, he was sentenced to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment and fined ₹50,000. The court directed that all the sentences would run concurrently. If the fines are not paid, he will have to undergo additional imprisonment.

Editorial Perspective

Even if such jihadis are kept in prison for life, it will not have any deterrent effect. Therefore, it is necessary to enact a law providing for the death penalty for such crimes !
