New Delhi – The US has announced aid worth $450 million (roughly 3,500 crore rupees) to Pakistan for F-16 fighter jets. The Joe Biden Government has announced this package to Pakistan for the fight against terrorism. India has lodged a strong protest with the US in this regard. India has expressed displeasure with the matter and timing of this decision to US Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asia Donald Lu.

1. This is the largest defence assistance given by the US to Pakistan in the last 4 years. In 2018, the then President of the United States, Donald Trump, blocked the aid of $200 million given to Pakistan to fight against terrorism. That decision was taken by the Trump administration after the failure of Pakistan to curb the terrorists of the Taliban and Haqqani network in Afghanistan.
2. The F-16 program is an important part of the US-Pakistan bilateral relationship. According to the long-term policy in this regard, the US has announced this package for Pakistan, the US spokesperson said. The US explained that the package for F-16 fighter jets does not include any weapons or munitions.
